Minbari are bipedal Mammals with an extremely strong endoskeleton and can be recognized by their bald heads and the protruding bone crest, which frames the back of the head, neck, and down the spinal column. Skin tone and distinctions in facial characteristics can not be used to identify different breeds of Minbari any longer, although there is evidence to suggest at one time this was not the case.As there are no distinct breeds of Minbari, centuries of crossbreeding having lead to the extinction of sub breeds, we are left with one united Minbari people.

As with most mammals, both halves of this race, male and female are required to reproduce sans the use of cloning and genetic technology.  For the most part, Minbari mate for life.  It is rare for Minbari to divorce or separate, save under the most fervent of circumstances.  Even if one's mate dies, it is rare for the survivor to remarry.

Minbari females do not have a menstrual cycle like human females, and only come into season once every seven standard months.  If the female does not become pregnant, the egg is simply reabsorbed into the surrounding tissue of the uterus wall.  Mating usually results in a single offspring, and it is very rare for Minbari to give birth to twins or triplets.

Minbari, despite popular misconception, are carnivorous creatures and feed on a wide variety of animals.  Minbari also prefer extremely hot, spicy foods.  This is due to the fact that the Minbari sense of taste and smell is very poor compared to other races.

Minbari are deceptively strong; stronger than humans and Centauri.  This is due to the fact that the Minbari have an extremely dense bone mass, almost twice that of a human, and stronger muscles.  Minbari also have far greater endurance than a human, able to survive physical damage and go without food longer than the average human.

One of the reasons Minbari are so resilient, is their extremely complex cardiovascular system.  This system can easily be recognized by large capillaries and veins, running deep beneath the outer tissue surface.  This provides the Minbari with superior blood flow and helps the Minbari maintain body heat far better than humans, in order to survive the low temperatures of their frigid planet.  The Minbari also do not perspire, but instead secrete a fluid during their sleep [see "Minbari hygiene"].

This complex system, designed to maintain body heat on the frigid Minbari home world, gives the Minbari a very low tolerance for warm environments.  Minbari are known to pass out rather quickly at temperatures in excess of 32 degrees Celsius, and at temperatures in excess of 40 degrees death will occur in a few hours.
