Minbari Stealth Device

With Whitestar class attack ships in high demand but short supply, the Rangers charged with defending the borders of the Interstellar Alliance have been forced to fall back upon other Minbari vessels used by the Rangers prior to the Shadow War.* One of these vessels is the Liandra, a 20 year-old* patrol ship used by the Rangers that came into service a year prior to the Earth/Minbari War.* While a relatively new starship, the Liandra is based off of an old design concept that is considered obsolete by today's standards.*

Designed to conduct covert, deep range missions on the Rim this type vessel does not have the familiar Minbari markings or typical design concepts trademark to other Minbari craft.* Simply put, the Liandra was designed to not draw attention to herself while the Ranger crew searched for threats to the Minbari Federation and watched for signs that the Shadows were returning. Presently, the Liandra is still being used by the Interstellar Alliance and is currently under the command of Ranger David Martel.**

The Liandra type vessel is roughly 160 meters in length**, and carries a crew of 20 persons.** Offensive weapons include at least four weapon turrets and three fixed cannons built into the wings and nose.** These weapons are controlled by a holographic Virtual Reality gunnery pod on the Liandra's bridge.** Defensive system includes Minbari Stealth technology, countermeasures, and armored hull. Stealth system uses a series of energy fields to scatter incoming sensor beams, making the ship effectively invisible to electronic scanners.*** Countermeasures are faceted crystal projectiles designed to breakdown energy weapons to their constituent frequencies, reducing of negating their effect.*** The hull is comprised of Minbari crystalline based armor between 1.6 and 0.8 meters thick.***

Like all Minbari ships, the Liandra uses a gravimetric drive system as her primary means of propulsion, rather than Ion engines, giving her far greater speed and maneuverability than conventional craft. Unfortunately, due to the Liandra's small size she does not have a Jump Engine for entering/exiting Hyperspace on her own, thus forcing the Liandra to rely on Jump Gates.***

*Stated by Dulann in the TV Movie "Legend of the Rangers"]
[
*Liandra 1st seen in LOTR, in the year 2264, thus Liandra was built in 2244, EA/Minbari War began 2245.]
[
*Assertion based on character/production comments that the Liandra was considered old and antiquated, despite being a relatively new ship... and people think its cursed.]
[*Conjecture based on drastic design differences from any/all prior incarnations of Minbari craft.]
[**As seen in the TV Movie "Legend of the Rangers"]
[**Size based on the fact Liandra is at least two decks in height & size comparison to Cam-Bots.]

**Theory, based on what was seen and stated in the Babylon 5 series.]
[***Theory based on what was seen and stated in the Babylon 5 series, system standard issue on all known Minbari warships.]
[***As seen in the TV Movie "Legend of the Rangers", and described in the Crusade script "To the Ends of the Earth"]
[***Armor based on the thickness of the retractable landing gear plates on the Liandra, and the production CGI model at www.b5lr.com]
[***At no time did we see the Liandra use a Jump Engine and all canon evidence shows her using only Jump Gates, which is consistent with the Babylon 5 series as Whitestars are considered of the the smallest craft - 475.6 m - in possession of a Jump Engine.]
